COMHAIRLE LIATHRÓID LÁIMHE LAIGHEAN
TUAIRISC AN RÚNAÍ
We organised our championships to our usual standards in 2007 with most of them contested with vigour and enthusiasm. Tremendous credit is due to those who were in charge at venues and refereed games, sometimes late into the night.
CLEAN SWEEP
Once more, Leinster Handball Council organised the plethora of Championships from Under 11 to Over 60 with all 12 counties involved to a greater or lesser degree.
We again more organised 4 championships in each grade—singles and doubles in both sized courts. Only the fittest manage to make a clean sweep of all 4 titles—once again only one player managed that difficult feat. Once more it was the peerless Michael Ducksie Walsh who dominated the Masters Grade. His fund raising extended to the late Eamon Law (Kk) who died tragically while playing handball.
A full resume of the winners from underage giels to men over 70 appears below.
BY THE WAY
All units of the GAA have phased out notification by post and have replaced it by Email. We managed this to a large degree this year.
Handball promoters are pleased to note the huge rise in interest shown in the participation of
Players who took part in the 2007 Nationals and we look forward to to further rise in the number
2008 where hopeful there will be a further rise in interest and participation in our game.
COISTÍ
Seán Ryan (Ceatharlach) completed his third term as Juvenile Chairman with Billy Love and Liam Mahon (Cill Chainnigh) sharing the Secretarial duties. There is no doubt that the formation of our Juvenile Section was the best decision made in the 57 years our Council is in being. The Championships are well run and this is one area I hear no complaints about.
The Leinster Colleges championships were once more expertly organised by Michael
Reynolds and Comhairle Liathróid Láimhe Laighean appreciates his help and the time and
effort he puts into our fixtures.
The gratitude of Leinster Council is due to all who gave of their time—Seán, Billy and Liam mentioned above; Richard Willoughby, Tom Rossiter and Joe Masterson as officers of the Leinster Handball Council.
Tom Walsh served us once more as our representative on the Leinster GAA Development Committee and he has been an outstanding Uachtarán showing resolve as well being utterly courteous. He was a brilliant choice as leader of our association
Thanks also to Lorcán Ó Ruairc for his help and co-operation at all times. His time was at a premium, especially as he has to overcome a serious operation.
The sympathy of the Council goes to everyone bereaved during the year.
Finally, thanks to all the voluntary officials who opened and prepared courts, refereed games and ensured I got results from our huge programme of games.
